According to Travel + Leisure, Charleston, SC is the No. 1 city not just in the U.S. (2013, 2014 & 2015), but also in the world according to their 2016 World’s Best Awards. While that may be a little exaggerated, Charleston is surely a must-see and experience destination. And even if you have just a day or two here, there’s lots to do in a short time including some fantastic eats.
My personal Top Three culinary experiences on/near Kings Street, Charleston are:
1) Dinner at “The Watch Rooftop Restaurant” (surprisingly family-friendly, too)
2) Buffalo Oysters and Potato Skins at “Closed for Business”
3) Ice-Cream indulgence(s) at Jenis – lots of seasonal flavors and if you can’t decide, ask for the kids scoop size!
Final words, although I am usually a big fan of the New York Times Travel Section, don’t rely on the popular “36 hours in” series by the NYT about Charleston unless you are a fan of outdated information as old story was just republished without a proper update, but instead see what recent visitors have to say on Yelp, OpenTable and — my favorite — Google Maps. Or just ask your bartender, waitress, even the Chef or the people next to you where to head next. That’s how I find the most #travelivious places!
